Kaikōura Aquatic Centre, Kaikōura

CREATE are engaged by the Kaikōura Community Trust as Lead Consultant to deliver a new outdoor community facility to replace the earthquake-damaged waterfront Lions Pool. The new pool facility will be located on a new site, which was determined through a public consultation process, within the Scarborough reserve; and will include the following key features:

  • 25m Lap Pool

  • Learn to Swim Pool/Shallow Therapeutic Pool

  • Beach Entry Toddler Pool

  • Change facilities & amenities

  • Office, store, ticketing

  • Surrounds, seating, fencing

  • Carparking & access

The design solution was developed to capture views of the Kaikōura Ranges, South Bay and to provide a strong sense of arrival whilst sheltering from prevailing winds. The design is future proofed to allow for staging with a foundation solution enabling the pools area and surrounds to be enclosed in a next stage of development. The site has been master planned to cater for future expansion of the facility to include a SPA, indoor sports hall, gym and additional aquatic activities, such as hydroslides.
