Waiau Community Pool, Hurunui

CREATE were engaged by the Hurunui District Council to provide full design services for a new outdoor community pool facility replacing an existing facility which was destroyed in the November 2016 earthquake and requiring full replacement. It was the opportunity to build a complex to better service the growing and long-term needs of the community.

CREATE worked with a fully engaged community through a series of workshops to develop the scheme that would suit their purposes and aspirations. The new facility, which opened to the public in February 2019, was built on the local primary school grounds and features a 25x8m lap pool with ramp entry, an 8x6m toddlers pool with zero-depth beach entry, pool surrounds and fencing, enclosed change rooms and amenities.
