Napier Aquatic Centre, Hawkes Bay

CREATE have been engaged by Napier City Council (NCC) to provide master planning and aquatic facility design for the redevelopment of Napier Aquatic Centre and Reserve in Onekawa. Options were proposed that reflected the business case opportunities, outlined by Global Leisure Group (GLG), along with aspirational drivers from Napier City Council to look to create a new regional quality centre, future proofed for the next 30 years. Our scope covered full design services and lead consultancy role. 

All options included enhanced leisure water, and addition of dry sports facility to enhance amenity value. 

Three key options were developed for public consultation purposes:

Option 2: Upgrade and extension to the existing Napier Aquatic Facility – 3100m2 New Build $20Million:

  • New 25mx25m lane pool. New Learn to swim Pool, New reception, changing rooms and meeting rooms. Gymnasium, Café and retail.

Option 3: New Aquatic Facility $5700m2, overall project estimate of $37Million:

  • New 25mx25m lane pool. New Learn to swim Pool, New Hyrdotherapy Pool, New Leisure Pool area with Lazy River Hydroslides, Spa etc.  New reception, changing rooms and meeting rooms. Gymnasium, Café and retail.

Option 4: New Aquatic Facility $5800m2, overall project estimate of $38Million:

  • New 50mx21m Multiuse 50m pool. New Learn to swim Pool, New Hyrdotherapy Pool, New Leisure Pool area with Lazy River, Hydroslides, Spa etc.  New reception, changing rooms and meeting rooms. Gymnasium, Café and retail.
